Resodyn Corporation has been awarded a Small Business Innovation Research Phase I contract from the United States Navy to further development of a field powder coating material and application method. The Phase I award is a competitive process and receiving the award is a testament to the merit and potential of the underlying science Resodyn scientists were able to exhibit. This funding will help to demonstrate the numerous military and industrial applications for Resodyn Corporation's patent pending Polymer Thermal Spray (PTS) system.
Conventional powder coating technologies typically involve tremendous energy requirements for preheating the surface material, degradation of the desired coating due to the flame spray process, and significant curing times as well as release of environmentally harmful Volatile Organic Compounds. Resodyn Corporation's patent pending PTS System requires less preheating, instant field curing, and no polymer degradation. In addition, the PTS is field portable and involves zero VOCs.
Companion research for the United States Air Force facilitated development of a coating for the interior of buildings that helps walls to remain standing following a similar blast or explosion.
