Polymer Materials Engineer or Polymer Materials ScientistPosition Description:
Qualification for this technically challenging position requires a Ph.D. in Polymer Materials
Science/Engineering, or related field, and a minimum of five (5) years direct Polymer Coatings
industry experience, beyond that of any post-doctorial experience. Successful candidates must
have developed strong analytical skills and creativity for innovative solutions to technically
challenging problems and experience with Engineered Polymer Coatings Materials. These
materials will have been primarily thermoplastics, with additional experience with select
thermosetting materials utilizing various crosslinking (curing) mechanisms.
Our clients require advanced technology coatings for a broad range of applications that include
Polymer Matrix Composites (PMC), high performance polymers, multi-functional materials
(nano-materials used to modify properties and characteristics of a base material), polymer
alloying, polymer adhesion, and polymer processability. These applications will include
protective coatings, functionally graded coatings, structural coatings, near-net-shape processes,
syntactic foams, and coatings having uniquely specific properties to the application.
The successful candidate shall be cognizant of material property characterization requirements
and procedures. Areas of technical responsibilities will include material selection, material
strength characterization, coating process development and coating composition optimization.
The coating application markets will include industrial, aerospace, and military. The position will
require the successful candidate to continually self-educate through the study of published
literature to remain aware of ongoing materials research that could be utilized in the development
of new materials to satisfy our client's requirements.
In this role, you will take responsibility for assigned projects from inception through completion.
You will research, develop, and apply advanced materials engineering principles, as well as
develop methods and theories in the solution of complex and advanced technical problems. The
work scope encompasses the development of product design configurations and/or individual
components and the performance data associated with such developments. Excellent analytical
and applied practical skills will be heavily utilized on research and development projects in this
position.
In this senior scientist role, you will provide guidance and assistance to less experienced Ph.D.
researchers within the group to facilitate the successful completion of projects. Your experience
and expertise will offer the theoretical creativity necessary to effectively begin new projects, and
the functional application knowledge to accelerate them through their completion. Technical
papers, technical presentations, authoring patent documentation, and proposal writing will be
major components of the position, resulting in continuous Principle Investigator or Key Person
responsibilities on multiple, ongoing projects.
This position affords the successful candidate the opportunity to conduct work in a rewarding
environment developing materials related products, and to see those products utilized in real
client applications.
